I'm thrilled to continue our Varily's Creative Chats series with a conversation with Diana, the founder of Koda Amsterdam!

After a successful 20-year career in retail, Diana felt a strong desire to contribute to a more sustainable future. This led her to create Koda, a company that crafts unique, long-lasting accessories using surplus fabrics from top Dutch brands.

In this interview, we'll delve into Diana's creative process, her passion for sustainable design, and the inspiration behind Koda's beautiful and unique products.

1 - How did you recognise your creative call?

Actually, my call was merely a call for contributing to people and planet after 24 years working in corporate retail. The process of production and transportation of products (mostly made in The Far East, probably by underpaid workers and maybe even children) made me feel uneasy, so I was looking for a new "career" with sustainability as a key ingredient.

2 -  We are fascinated about the collaborative side of your business, what sparks the fire of collaboration? Is it love at first sight or a more technical process between the brands?

In my opinion, collaboration is far more important than the product itself, that is the outcome of a creative process in which 1+1=3 or even more than that.

3 - If you could collaborate with any artist, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
Since I just visited museum Ordrupgaard in Denmark, it would be Ai Wei Wei. What an artist, what a life, what a beautiful yet confronting way of expressing the human need for freedom, dignity and democracy.

Diana's story is a testament to the power of creativity and the importance of sustainable practices. By transforming surplus fabrics into beautiful and functional accessories, Koda is not only reducing waste but also inspiring others to embrace a more conscious and sustainable lifestyle.
